“A Breath of Hope” Bubble Cruise Carnival
Date: Saturday, 17 November 2018 (3:00pm – 6:00pm) Location: Bauhinia Ferry
To mark Lung Cancer Awareness Month, A Breath of Hope organized a Bubble Cruise Carnival for lung cancer patients, caregivers, and the general public to raise awareness of the disease and support lung cancer patients.
The carnival was held on the Harbour Cruise - Bauhinia Ferry. Against the picturesque backdrop of the Victoria Harbour, more than 250 participants challenged a World Record attempt of “The Largest Soap Bubble Making Lesson” led by Su Chung Tai, a four times Guinness World Record holder. The attempt was organized to show support for lung cancer patients and to celebrate the importance of each breath. For every participant in the world record attempt, “A Breath of Hope” donated HK$100 to the Hong Kong Adventist Hospital Foundation towards cancer patient care.
On the day, Akina Fong hosted a health talk with Dr. Siu-Ke Au, Dr. Jacky Li, and Dr. Stephen Yau on lung cancer, its symptoms and new treatment options. Dr. Patricia Poon, Halina Tam, and Denice Wai discussed ways to support patients and their psychological needs, and how families and caregivers can cope with stress.
The event also featured interactive activities including art therapy sessions, DIY lip balm workshops and a “thank you tree” for patients to show their appreciation to their doctors, nurses, caregivers, or loved ones.
We thank everyone who participated in the event and for showing their support to lung cancer patients and caregivers!
